POPCORN KICKOFF MEETING

Hello Scout families!

It's time for our annual Welcome Back pack meeting and popcorn fundraiser launch meeting. This year, it will take place on Tuesday, August 13 at 6:30 at Dickinson First United Methodist Church. We'll be discussing the calendar of events and going over details of the popcorn fundraiser, which is the only fundraiser we will have.

If you are not a new Scout and have your class A uniform, please wear it to this meeting. New Scouts, you can get uniforms from one of the local Scout shops in the area, but you are not required to be in uniform at this first meeting. Please email me if you have questions about where to get uniforms. We will also have our royal blue Class B T-shirts for sale that night. Those are great to wear at outings and den meetings throughout the year. Both adult and child sizes will be available.

Parents, we will be asking for you to turn in a copy of your Scout's shot records this fall, so please make arrangements to get those to us as soon as possible. We can accept them at Tuesday's meeting if you have them ready.

The church is providing child care for siblings of Scouts. (Scouts will be expected to be at the meeting and seated with their parents.) If you need care for a younger child, please email me back and let me know the name of the sibling and their age as soon as possible so the church can arrange for the correct number of sitters. If we don't hear back from you, we can't guarantee your young one a spot in the child care room that night.

Also, please consider having your Scout wear his Class A uniform to your Meet the Teacher night. This will give your new teacher some valuable information about your son's activities outside of school, and generate interest in Scouting.

Thank you guys so much, and we'll see you Tuesday!

PACK 696 SUMMER ACTIVITIES!!

Hello Scout families!

Hope all of you are enjoying your summer!

Attached (SEE BELOW) is a list of our summer events. The first one, Raingutter Regatta, is coming up fast. It'll be on Saturday, July 13, at 9 a.m. at the church. If you were at May's pack meeting, you may remember that we are exchanging a regatta boat kit for a donation item to the Galveston Humane Society.

By Monday afternoon, there will be a box in the church office for donations, and you can drop off your donation anytime between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. on weekdays. The church office staff will give you your boat kit. Or, if you want, you can purchase your own boat kit at either of the Scout Shops in the area.

New Tigers are welcome to join in on this event, and if you are the parent of a Scout who has lost contact with the Pack but wishes to get involved again, please know that we'd love to have you at these events!!

Look for information about our annual Popcorn Fundraiser soon. We will be launching this in early August with a meeting at the church. Courtney Traylor and Katherine Rees will once again serve as our Popcorn Kernals, and coordinate our only Pack fundraiser for the year.

Please email me back if you have any questions, or wish to be removed from our mailing list. Or, if you are receiving this email at multiple addresses, please email me from the one you want me to use. I am beginning the process of cleaning out my contact list for the new Scouting year, and appreciate your help.

Also, the Pack Leadership Committee is meeting on July 21 to plan the upcoming year. Our pack is growing rapidly and we need adults willing to serve as Secretary, Friends of Scouting Chair, Pack Trainer, Outings Chair, and Treasurer. We also need a Tiger parent willing to serve as the new Tiger Den Leader. Please respond to this email, or contact Joe Donovan, our Pack Committee Chair, at 409-789-8040 or nitemaro4@yahoo.com if you'd like information on any of these positions. Members of the Pack Committee, the Cubmaster and Den Leaders meet once a month during the Scouting year to plan events and conduct pack business.

Thanks, and hope to see you on the 13th!

CUB-O-REE and PACK T-SHIRTS

Hi Cub families! Two things to announce, Cub-o-Ree and new T-shirts:

First, Cub-o-Ree:
For those of you new to Scouts, Cub-o-Ree and Twilight Camp are the two events where your Cub can earn the BB Gun and Archery Belt Loops. Cub-o-Ree is the weekend of April 13 and is a camping weekend full of different events that meet different requirements. For more info on the event itself, here's a link:
http://www.bacbsa.org/event/1306837

We would like to get a head count for this event by this Tuesday, March 26. Please let your den leader know how many in your family will be going. You can register as a yes or a maybe. The pack will collect registration fees ($12 for each scout and $6 for each parent and sibling. Parents planning to stay both nights must have face-to-face YPT (Youth Protection Training) which will be available from one of our YPT facilitators, Joe Donovan or Robert Bragg. Joe will hold one session during the April 2 den meetings--just drop your scout off in his meeting and meet Joe in the main area of the church.

We also need medical forms for each scout and adult. They are online at the BSA Website (www.bacbsa.org). Only the first two pages need to be completed. (The doctor's page is NOT necessary).

Second, T-shirts:

We will be placing an order at the end of the week for a new Pack 696 T-shirt. We are ordering a polyester "wicking shirt," too, for those who want one. If you would like a wicking shirt, please PREPAY by March 26. They are offering this type of shirt at a very reasonable cost (around $15) and they will keep you very cool during those summer days! The pack is also ordering cotton shirts in both adult and youth sizes--sizing information is needed by the end of the week if you wish to order.

A flyer with the details is available, but Yahoo won't let me send it to all of you. We'll have copies available Tuesday, or you can email me back and I can send the attachment to you individually so you can see a mock design and more details.

The pack's goal is to order a combination of 50 shirts by April 1, so they arrive in time for Cub-o-Ree. A pack T-shirt is a way to identify members of our pack at large events, and this one will be "Gator Blue." We still have a few of the gray ones available but would like to transition to most Scouts, parents and leaders wearing the new Gator Blue one this Spring.

Joe will be available to take orders for cotton shirts and wicking polyester shirts at Tuesday's meeting. Remember, the wicking shirts must be prepaid, as they are a special order. Cotton shirts can be paid for once they arrive.

Thank you to Jennifer Lawrence for doing the research for our awesome new shirts!

See you Tuesday!

CAMPING WEEKEND

Hi all!

Just a quick reminder of the pack camping trip set for this weekend, March 1-3, at Lake Somerville, the Birch Creek Unit. The sites do have electric service.

We already have a good number of folks planning to go--about 8 families--but there is room for more. Please let us know by Tuesday (either by seeing Joe at the den meetings, or by replying to this email) if your family would like to go. Unfortunately, we will not be able to reserve any additional sites after Tuesday.

You may bring your refundable $5 deposit Tuesday, if you haven't paid it already.

The pack is covering the cost of the sites, but families need to cover their own entrance fees and their own food.

We are planning a group hike, campfire, fishing in stocked ponds, and group activities. It should be a lot of fun!

See you soon!
Jennifer

BUILD IT TIME!!

Hello Akelas!

The Wolf Den is attending 2 different BUILD-IT Workshops. We would like to invite along any other Cub Scouts that might want to attend. There are two different Saturday events. Hopefully, your Cub can make both events. If not, maybe he can attend at least one of them.

Saturday, February 2, 2013 - Build-It Workshop at Home Depot (I-45 and 646) from 9 am to noon

Saturday, February 9, 2013 - Build-It Workshop at Lowe's (I-45 and 646) from 10:00 am to 1pm

Your cub can wear any clothes he likes. Uniforms are an option for our Wolf Scouts. However, if they wear their uniform, they qualify for a Treasure Box drawing. Thx!
