Hi Scout families,
Here is some information on Native American Weekend. This is a special Council-sponosored camping event at Camp Karankawa in Sweeny, TX and includes all Cub scout packs from around the area.
**ALL adults planning to go MUST have completed YPT (Youth Protection) training to attend this campout. Our friends at Pack 207 will hold YPT training
Thursday, November 8th at 7pm at First Baptist Church. Childcare will be available for $5 per family and the training is FREE! Please let Christina Brummer with Pack 207 know if you will be attending this training. Her email is

There will also be a range master training available Friday night for $5 that you can sign up for when you register. (See below for details on this.)
Space is limited and registration ends Oct 31st.
If you are new to Scouting and need clarification on anything below, please email me--the information below is from Council and can be hard to understand if you've never been to a district-sponsored campout before. :)

Native American Weekend 2012
Major Program Areas:
- Archery, BB Guns, Wrist Rockets
- Indian Lore Area with Native Drumming/Dancing, Games, and Cooking demonstrations.
- Waterfront: Canoes/Rowboats
- Tepees, Wickiups, and other exciting Native American displays.
The gates will open at 3:00 PM on Friday, Nov. 9th. Gates will be locked at 10:00 P.M.
The gates will re-open again for check-in at 7:30 AM on Saturday, Nov. 10th.
Check-in will be located at Cub World as you enter camp. All cars will be labeled with campsite and number of participants, then sent on to Parking crews.
Event rotation for the activities on Saturday will be assigned at check-in according to which campsite you are staying in.
Unloading near bathrooms will be in 15 min. intervals only (unload, park, then return to move gear to campsite). Parking attendants will be present to assist and keep a Trustworthy eye on your gear while you park. There will be NO parking on camp roadways.
Registration has been limited to 1500 participants. Prices will be $12 per child (all Scouts siblings under age 18 and over the age of 5), and $8 per adult.
Please be aware that NO meals will be provided. (Some Native American cooking demonstrations will be held on Saturday but will only provide small samples).
As with most family camping, meals for the weekend should be planned and prepared as a Pack, Troop, or Family group.
A Boy Scout certified Shooting Director will be present to set up ranges; however, each group participating must provide a BSA Certified Rangemaster for your particular age group if they desire to shoot archery/BB’s. Hour-long blocks at the ranges will be issued at check-in for units who can provide proof of a rangemaster.
The reasons for this decision are as follows:
1) This will alleviate extreme demands on volunteer staff with so many participants at camp.
2) Allows the ranges to be operational immediately so there should be little or no waiting.
There will be a Range Master Class on Friday Night at the Training Lodge from 7 – 10 PM to help the units that could not get to a training class before now. Each unit is required to have at least 2 Range Masters to run the Range for their unit. No Range Master, No Range time. Every Range Master must bring their own whistle to run their range. Each unit will be given a one-hour time slot for each Range use. If you show up at any other time than your time allotted you will be asked to leave until it is your turn. We will have BB Gun Ranges, Archery Ranges and Wrist Rocket Ranges. The Wrist Rocket Range will have staff members and a Range Monitor to help the Range Masters with the rules and operation of the range.
