These rules are from 2013 and are in the process of being reviewed/updated for this year. However, they are a great guideline.

Cake
Bake-off rules (no exceptions)
- Cub Scouts must bake and decorate their cake with minimal help from parents (excluding Tigers, they’re still little guys, but they have to help mom and dad). Cubs must help with clean up.
- No Store bought cakes, please. Cake mixes and readymade frosting, however, can be used to make your cake.
- The ENTIRE cake must be edible – including All decorations. (Hint: you may use anything edible such as candy, cookies … even vegetables, fruits, cinnamon sticks, etc…) The cake will be disqualified if anything NON-EDIBLE is used.
- Scouts will have to make a title for their cakes and know under which category they want to be judged. This information will go on the registration form that will be provided when you bring your cake. Cakes must be registered and numbers issued for judging purposes. Example: Title of Cake: Liberty Bell Category: Most Patriotic Theme.
- Please bring the cake in a covered container that you don't have to have back. It can even be in a container covered with plastic wrap... just as long as it is covered and we can see it. The cake must come in and be in a covered container.... The cake will be disqualified if it is not covered. NO EXCEPTIONS!!!
- All cakes must be registered for judging before the judging starts. Any that "show up" after judging starts will still get a patch and be auctioned off, but will not be eligible for winning prizes.
JUDGING
- Judges will judge cakes based on the Cub Scout's work
- Judges will use the rules as the basis for judging all cakes
- Judging will be based in creativity and appearance, not taste
The
purpose of this event is for the Cub Scouts to have a good time
learning about and doing a little baking. We ask that all Cub
Scouts follow the Cub Scout motto and “Do Your Best”
Have
fun baking!! And check the books…the Cub Scouts may even
complete a requirement or two in the process.
